John and Carolyn were both born and raised in Michigan. After marrying they moved to Kansas City to raise their two sons. John worked for many years as a Ground Operations Agent for Northwest Airlines and Carolyn has worked several years in manufacturing sales. They built their dream home on acreage in Kansas City on the bluffs of the Missouri River, a gentleman’s ranch really, complete with horses.
After visiting the west side of Florida 10 years ago, the family fell in love with the area and what it had to offer. John's job with the airline was transferable so they just needed to sell the ranch and move south. Working outside and never seeing snow again was very appealing.
The McConnell family moved in the fall of 1998. Carolyn found work with a steel company where she is still happily employed. John continued to work for Northwest but always wanted to own his own business. He was ready to make this happen and began looking at many different types of businesses, but nothing would provide the income he desired, nor did he strongly believe in the products.
This really changed when John met with Scott L. Lyons, the founder of Privacy On Demand, Inc.™, after reading an article in the St. Petersburg Times featuring the company. John quickly signed on, becoming the first distributor for Privacy On Demand, Inc.™. Utilizing Carolyn's marketing and sales experience, they quickly learned what really made the phone ring. Soon, they were installing several curtains each month.
In fact, things were going so well that John and Carolyn purchased a commercial van which they wrapped with advertising, creating a mobile billboard. He sold two jobs from it the first month alone.
After working this business for just 10 months, John and Carolyn became the first Privacy On Demand, Inc.™ Master Distributors and now help with mentoring new distributors. Both Carolyn and John have found what works to sell the product and are willing to help other distributors on the fast track to success. John and Carolyn are looking forward to continued success with the sale of curtains and working with new distributors in their geographic area to help them do the same.
